Introduction The struggle between the ruler and the ruled has a long and chequered history. There was a time when rulers were perceived as emerging from heaven and therefore, having divine rights, and nobody could dare oppose (or challenge) their authority. As time went on, it was realised that government should and must be for the interest of the people. But this transition was not without resistance. The English revolution of 1688, the American Revolution of 1776 and the French Revolution of...

One reason the rich keep getting richer is because capitalism functions on the principle of weighted money - the more money you have, the easier it is to buy and consume. For instance, magazines are cheaper when you buy a subscription, and cigarettes are cheaper by the carton than a pack at a time. If you have enough money to buy lots of magazines and cigarettes, then you can open up a kiosk and sell them on the street corner. If your kiosk makes enough money, you can use the profits to...

Democratic Empowerment Party (DEP) founder and president Steve Glickman usually tries his hardest to shy away from discussing religion or scripture, preferring to stick to the here-and-now. However, it’s hard not to draw parallels between his model of a better society - using what he calls ‘vote sizing’ - and the messages Jesus taught. Glickman’s idea to replace one-person-one-vote with a weighted vote system to favor poorer, working and middle-class people has...

North Americans need to learn how to spin down, not up, to lower levels of energy use. We already have and use exponentially more energy than previous generations - yet we’re not happier, fitter or any more enlightened. The argument that we should now search for more energy to lessen our environmental impact defies logic: Hybrid cars need an incredible amount of steel, plastic, toxins, water and fossil fuel to make; nuclear energy is an idiot’s game of Russian roulette that...

Pakistani president Musharraf’s most recent raspberry at democracy is just one more example of the fatal flaw in the “one-person-one-vote” system, Steve Glickman, founder of the Democratic Empowerment Party said today. “This is just the latest meltdown in the Bush administration’s foreign policy, and it’s pretty much what we can expect when the gap between the vote’s symbolic value and actual value is large enough to swallow up whole planets,...

There are many perfectly legitimate ways to ascend to positions of economic authority: innovation, creativity, intelligence, responsibility and prudence - to name a few. Those who get to build the economic structures have that opportunity because of their contribution to the economy. And because they are interested in adding value to the market - not cheating it - they will self-regulate. Not that government shouldn't keep a watchful eye just in case - because once government stops minding...

Before any election, politicians have to get their messages across, probably on the reforms they are going to carry in order to better the living standards of the people. This exercise does not go without much money being spent on paying the media, bribing the people to vote for a particular party/person. It is important we understand that election periods are the greatest and only moments which people have to start the building of a fundamental or foundation of a good government. The...

Yeap, sure is! There are other ideas of concentrating power floating around, which we explore in the what won't work and vote sizing formulas pages; but the version of vote sizing endorsed by the DEP on this website is one that judges people strictly according to their income. Why focus on class? The first reason is that although corruption can make it next to impossible; class has the potential to be a choice. Everyone understands class, and it's a lot easier to evaluate than skin color...

The Democratic Empowerment Party & Fair Choice Party are the institutional arms of vote sizing - and aspire to branch out and become a coalition of national political parties around the world. ... but does this mean that every branch of the party will have the very same agendas? No! By fully representing what you, the people want; the DEP/FCP is able to be both true to its doctrines and yet flexible enough to reflect the variety of different viewpoints. Would the Philippians -...

It is common knowledge that Africa still lags behind in development but it is a rich continent in natural and human resources. This is an interesting paradox which can be understood if we consider its position in geographic focus. A study of Africa’s economy shows that a greater part of the continent is without basic development facilities. A larger portion of Africa’s population lives on less than $1 US a day. This dearth of development facilities could never have been...

Vote sizing is a new and efficient tool that can effectively and accurately reduce poverty which is today considered as a global tragedy which leads to frustration, spread of deadly diseases, so many violent crimes, loose morals and many other negative factors eating away our fabric society. The Fair Choice respects much the pyramidal system of a society or the laws of nature. To best understand this, it is first of all important to understand the meaning and causes of poverty, especially...

What is education? Education is the core of every society, that is why any society tries as much as possible to improve on its educational policies. Most African countries today, including Cameroon, are doing everything possible to improve on their standards of education. Some governments go as far as implementing laws on education. Looking at the world today, we observe that education has done more in the field of science than in the field of well-being of mankind - especially in the...

The Fair Choice which has a simple message built on love and respect for human rights, holds up to the point that the voices of those living in misery must be taken into consideration if not the world will never be a better place for both the rich and the poor - because insecurity which stems from poverty affects both. Any human efforts aimed at upgrading the wellbeing of mankind is achieved or attains its goal only through blessings and love. Any idea that is not built on love can never...

In times when we trust computers to help us manage our bank accounts, personal correspondence, news, entertainment, appliances, manufacturing, transportation, communication (gosh, have I forgotten anything?) it’s only natural to allow them to help us manage our democratic ideals too ... but that doesn’t mean that we can be negligent and entrust the entire voting process to computers. That’s why vote sizing is not electronic voting! In fact, vote sizing rejects the idea...

Patronage in our workplace fosters in all of us a sense of indifference about the tasks we perform, the goods and services we produce, and the value we add to society. When labor becomes the main way that society sees us, we take on the attributes of prostitutes; sure everyone appreciates the work that we do and it might even pay very well; but few will ever respect for us for actually being the ones to do it in order to get by. This in turn nurtures a collective irresponsibility towards...

Unfortunately, living within a tyranny means that the corrupted macro hourglass system of building power becomes internalized in the micro view and assimilated in our own psyche. In other words, we become as irresponsible as our leaders about our own affairs; and in response to a meaningless vote, we become “defeated voters” and look to other things to fill the void. As defeated voters who no longer feel needed or useful, we shirk our own civic responsibilities - making it...

By now, it’s quite likely that you are reeling from all the different avenues that a corrupted system has to keep itself spiraling out of control. As we attempt to shift the focus off of responsibility, we lose track of our true calling, which is above all to leave our children a better world than we found. In this age of technological inhumanity, scientific atrocity, atomic misphilosophy, nuclear misenergy: It's a world that forces lifelong insecurity ~ Bob...

The isolation, apathy, and disconnect that corruption hourglasses foster encourage a turn from human connections as a means of daily fulfillment to other, more selfish means. When brutality is directed inwards it becomes abuse. Because it fails to provide a lack of understanding or satisfaction, this activity quickly becomes addictive. Brutality cultivates abuse, which cultivates self-abuse, which cultivates addiction. We then have a hard time getting over our addiction because they are...
