What is education?

Education is the core of every society, that is why any society tries as much as possible to improve on its educational policies. Most African countries today, including Cameroon, are doing everything possible to improve on their standards of education. Some governments go as far as implementing laws on education.

Looking at the world today, we observe that education has done more in the field of science than in the field of well-being of mankind - especially in the developing nations and the world at large. Education has grown to its peak in the science of weaponry and leaving behind people in hunger, poverty, diseases and many other negative factors destroying the society.

The Fair Choice is out to make education or learning a fascinating and challenging matter especially in the science of well-being of mankind. This means that education should be based mostly in solving the problems destroying the society; and not simply compound them. I will like us to take a look at the science of today and ask ourselves it is able to solve the so many problems destroying our health and well-being. Are the educators of today able to change the world making it a better place for all?

Who is an Educator?

An educator is not necessarily someone who has undergone some formal training nor is necessarily someone who stands before a group of people and speaks. An educator is somebody trained or untrained, who is able to transmit knowledge to mankind either directly or indirectly. Today, the world has observed all sorts of educators including bad and good ones. The Fair Choice says that if we have good educators, then we are surely going to succeed in our mission of making the world a better home for all.

Who is a good educator?

A good educator according to the Fair Choice, is not only a gift, but is one whose knowledge or actions are seen as solution to the many problems destroying the society. A good educator should above all have that burning desire to see the society in which he is living change for the best. Any educator whose knowledge is not instrumental in solving the many prominent problems destroying mankind should not be considered a good educator.

Examples of good leaders can also be found in the fields of medicine, religion, classrooms, agriculture, comedy, musicians ...and many others.

Looking at Africa today, we observe that it is governed by war, injustice, tyranny, corruption, dictatorship, greed, and the most surprising thing is that the leaders who are considered to be educated were equally trained by other educators in some of the best schools in Europe and America. Despite the education they went through, there are still unable to govern their countries by making it a better place for their citizens. This is to prove that these educators were not good educators.

The Fair Choice is calling on the educators and learners of today to make a good name for themselves by educating and learning more on the problems of the world like wars, injustice, hunger, malnutrition, poverty, corruption, tyranny and many others arising daily.

I will conclude by asking my fellow humans to join me and take it as a challenge in making themselves good educators and equally educate others to become good educators and we are all going to make this our world a better place for our children.
