The shift from a harmonious pyramid society to a corrupted hourglass one is not sudden - it takes place in subtle and gradual ways. As the creatures who seek stability yet find ourselves surrounded by unstable and opaque institutions - where wealth (intake) and power (outtake) are heavily intermixed - we tolerate, accept, and internalize the model; becoming unbalanced too. We don't just become part of the corruption hourglass... it also becomes us! We direct our anxiety inwards, we shift away from self-realization and integrity towards polarity and irrationality. We begin to see ourselves and make important decisions not as part of a larger whole with its own long-term view, but with the whatever's-in-it-for-me-now-works mindset.
There are different ways of internalized corruption manifesting: defeat, abuse, righteousness, and dissatisfaction - being the four main ones.
The consequence of this internal shift into accepting corruption is at complete odds with the desired result - instead of levity, which makes life pleasurable, the past and the future take on more and more weight, and it becomes harder and harder to live in the moment. Pretty soon, all our time is consumed, or spent, just trying to hold on to what we've got. We become unhinged from within - no longer authentic, honest, upright or compassionate. Pleasant thoughts do not come easily in this situation, and instead suspicion, exhaustion, defeat and apathy plague us. Corruption attacks the very glue that holds peace, prosperity and dignity together.

Can't get the stink off - he's been hanging round for days. Comes like a comet, suckered you but not your friends. One day he'll get to you, teach you how to be a holy cow. You do it to yourself, you do, and that's what really hurts - is you do it to yourself, just you. ~ Radio Head, Just |
If you've read through the last five pages on corruption - tyranny, brutality, patronage, greed and decay - you're well aware by now of all the bad news. But don't drown in despair yet! There is good news - we can take responsibility for our actions, we can take our consequences seriously, we can pay the bills as we go, and we can change our behavior before it's too late. In order to discover how to do so, we'll start our quest by asking the question: If the internalization of greed is dissatisfaction, what is its opposite? What is the internalization of reward? Read on to our vision page to find out, or if you have already, read on to the brainiacs pages for some specific details you'll need before taking the vote sizing message out to the public.
To find a remedy, we'll need to step back, way back, prioritize, and find out exactly where things initially go wrong and start tending to what we need to.
